Winter Round 11 Results – Runs a plenty

It was a high scoring weekend for Rangers teams in round 11 with two of our three teams picking up the win’s over the weekend. The C2’s continued on their merry way with a decisive 29-6 victory over the Tigers whilst The D2’s made it two for two with a 23-14 victory over Nth Ryde.  Following their huge run scoring weekend the round before, the E2’s went down 10-15 in another high scoring game against Kissing Point.

D2’s match report is as follows:

Rangers capitalise on big first inning to beat Ryde Eastwood6, 23-1

With the D2’s losing in the narrowest of margins during their last encounter, a somewhat battered and bruised Rangers were keen to atone for their last innings implosion against Ryde Eastwood at Gannan Oval and started the game with a bang.

Enjoying a rare Saturday game, a 17-run explosion in the first inning hoisted Rangers to an unassailable lead with smart hitting and some capitalisation on Ryde Eastwood errors earning 16 of the 17 Rangers first innings runs with at least two outs.

Rangers scored first on an RBI triple by Matt Payne, two run singles by Jeff Watts and Richard Yeates, an RBI single from Richard Ash, a two run triple by Matt Payne, RBI singles by Matt Raymond, Jeff Watts, Nigel King and Grant Lacey along with a two run triple by Won Hong and an RBI single by Richard Ash.

Rangers added five more runs in the top of the third with that man again, Richard Ash starting the inning with a double, plating Lacey with further hits from Steve Graham, Matt Raymond and Jeff Watts.

All tolled nine Rangers hitters combined for 22 hits, 21 RBIs and 23 runs scored with Grant Lacey, Rick Yeates and Richard Ash combining for 4 hits with Ash, Watts and Payne picking up 4 RBI’s each.

Navigating a tricky strike zone, the hitters were well supported on the mound by Jeff Watts and Matt Raymond with Steve Graham again called upon for closing duties out of the bullpen as Ryde Eastwood fought back hard in the back end of the game giving Rangers a scare piling on more than 10 runs before Rangers finally shut down the scoring.
