Great day of finals at Rofe Park

It was a great day for Rangers at Rofe Park with three Senior teams battling it out to advance in their respective finals games in front of an enthusiastic and vocal crowd on Saturday.

Kicking off with the E2’s against their perennial rivals from down the road, Thornleigh, Rangers came up victorious 15-4 in a game far closer than the ultimate scoreline would show. Matt Raymond stellar on the mound for Rangers with the bottom of the order coming up trumps during several key moments for the home team. A game played in great spirit as are most of the local derby’s. Rangers will go on to play Greenway in the sudden death Final next weekend.

Meanwhile on Diamond 1, the B1’s grabbed an early 2-1 lead in a very closely fought affair despite missing the services of life member Matt Cooper to the USA. Scott Williamson strong toeing the rubber early, Rangers pushed the entire way with the home team going down by a solitary run in a very closely contested match. Obviously disappointed by the result, nothing can take away from a great season for the B’s and adds to their incredible run of finals appearances.

Back on Diamond 3, the comeback kids, the Rangers E1’s who won five of their last regular season games to catapult themselves from sixth to third squared off against a young Greenway side with speed to burn. In a see-sawing game Hayley’s team ultimately went down by 3, matching it with the visitors the entire game Rangers charged home strongly and just few more runs across the plate would have made all the difference, but it was an incredible achievement to make the finals, especially losing a key player in “Brad “The Rock” Rockwell to injury. Sad to see the streak come to an end but very encouraging signs for next season.

I’d like to extend a huge thanks to the show of support with players, parents, coaches, friends all coming down to Rofe to cheer us on. It was a great day out despite not getting all the results we’d hoped for. We still have one ticket to the dance, however, and details with regards to E2’s next finals game will be posted during the week.
