Winter Round 13 Results

Winter Round 13 Results

With the penultimate round of the 2014 Winter senior Baseball season upon us, we’re down to the business end of proceedings. The C2’s once again posted a strong victory on the weekend defeating Kuring-gai Stealers 12-8 and with their place in the finals ensured, we look to Hayley Bell and the E2’s who’s 13-8 win over the Saint’s keeping them in 3rd position with a vital final round standing between them and the post season. The D2’s chose a slightly different approach this past weekend, with inclement weather and inclement performance robbing them of the chance to contest the finals,  the weekend provided the opportunity to blood some “new” talent for the upcoming Summer season. Whilst the scoreline reflects somewhat of a blowout going down 20-5 to league leading Ryde Eastwood, several cogs were put in place for future contests. Game Changer report as follows.

Rangers drop 20-5 game to Ryde Eastwood 4

Kevin Dinn was the unsung star of the day, posting a perfect 3-3 day at the dish and also taking the mound for a rare appearance, but despite his efforts Rangers fell 20-5 to Ryde Eastwood4 at Gannan Oval on Saturday.

Dong Yeop Kang recorded the win for Ryde Eastwood4 even though he allowed five runs over five innings, Rangers failed to capitalise on runners in scoring position with solid fielding from Ryde Eastwood stifling numerous Rangers hits. In the end Kang struck out three, walked four and gave up 10 hits.

Ryde Eastwood4 on the other hand, pounded the Rangers pitching, as six hitters combined for 18 hits, 15 RBIs and 17 runs scored. Richard Yeates was technically, the game’s losing pitcher, although that responsibility was well shared. He allowed eight runs in two innings, walked one and struck out one.

The top of the first saw the Rangers take an early lead, 3-0. Matt Raymond singled to ignite the Rangers’ offense. Richard Ash doubled, scoring Matt Raymond and Dinn. The Rangers then tacked on more runs when Ash scored on an RBI single by Brad Rockwell. The lead stayed with Ryde Eastwood4 after the first, when it scored five runs on a groundout by Pil Soo PARK and four singles. Ryde Eastwood4 then tacked on another three runs in the second. Kang kicked things off with a single, scoring Kun Soo KIM. That was followed up by Sang Hoon KIM’s triple, bringing home Kang. Ryde Eastwood4 scored six runs in the third inning, and then followed it up with six more in the fourth. In the third, Ryde Eastwood4 scored on a wild pitch, scoring Johnny RYU. After pushing across two runs in the top of the fourth, the Rangers faced just a 14-5 deficit.

A two-run double by Matt Raymond triggered the Rangers’ comeback. The Rangers threat came to an end when Kang finally got Richard Yeates to ground out. At the conclusion, fielding errors and solid hitting from Ryde Eastwood were too much for Rangers with their Jeckyl and Hyde season at the plate continuing to plague them. Rangers combined for 11 hits, three belonging to Kevin Dinn with Brad Rockwell again leading the Rangers charge with two, along with Steve Graham who combined his multi hit game with a  magnificent fielding performance at second base. Matt Raymond and Richard Ash also picked up precious RBI’s for Rangers who will look to finish with a bang next weekend.
